Large Cacti

When you are looking for impressive specimens, you can't go wrong with large cacti. Cacti are adapted to very hot and dry environments and if you are planning to grow them in the UK, you should be aware of this fact. Import Export There are many different varieties of cactus, ranging from the tall and imposing Saguaro, to the smaller prickly pear cactus and the African Peyote Cactus. There are lots of varieties that stay relatively small and that do quite well indoors. Take a look at the gorgeous Christmas Cactus, with its pink leaves or the Orchid Cactus, which has a beautifully fragrant flower that only blooms for a span of hours. You may also be interested in the African Hoodia Cactus, which is not a cactus at all, but has impressive healing and health properties. When you are looking at cultivating cactus, always make sure that you can ensure a sunny place for them to live with soil that is very dry and has very good drainage. Cacti can be a lovely addition to any house or garden, and most often, they are lovely when potted and moved indoors and outdoors depending on the temperature and conditions.

Palm Tree

When you think of Palm Trees, there is a good chance that you are thinking about summer retreats and balmy climates, but the truth is, if you would like to add a palm tree to your garden, it is completely possible! A palm is essentially just a member of the family of plants known as Palmae, and there are more than 2500 species. Import Export For the most part, you'll find that this family of plants loves hot and dry climates, bu there are actually quite a few that can take a frost. If you have the space, you keep your palms indoors over the winter. When you want something that is really going to be impressive, take a look at the Mexican Blue Palm, which will grow up to forty feet over a long life. It is hardy and does quite well in the UK similarly, the Jubea Chinese Wine Palm has long and feathery leaves and only needs regular waterings during very dry summers. The Rhapidophyllum needle palm grows slowly and and is even more adapted to the cold. It can tolerate dampness and with its short height of five feet and its dark leaves is an attractive addition to any garden.

Olive Tree

Olive Trees are a great choice for any garden. An olive tree is a shrub or a short evergreen tree that comes from the Mediterranean, Asia and some parts of Africa. Most cultivars will range between eight and fifteen meters in height and they do well either singularly or in large and impressive groves. They are often recognized through their twisted trunks and their silvery green leaves. They bloom in small white lowers and the olives that they produce can be harvested when they turn green or when they turn a rich dark purple. Wild olive plants have smaller fruits than ones bred for productivity. If you are looking to grow this lovely plant in the UK, remember that it should not be over watered. They will thrive in conditions of less than 8 inches of rainfall a year. Import Export Be careful as very low temperatures can cause damage to this lovely plant.

Eating olives is terrific for a low-carbohydrate diet and the olives themselves are packed with healthy mono-saturates. The weather, the soil and the climate can all affect the taste of the olive; some are very strong, while others are quite mild or even nutty. Olive trees have been grown commercially since ancient times and there are olive trees out there that are well over 3000 years old.

Yucca

If you are looking for a lovely desert plant to cultivate, it might be a good idea to look into yucca plants of one sort or another. Yucca refers to a genus that is made up of around fifty types of perennials, trees and shrubs. They can be distinguished by their evergreen, sword-shaped leaves. Many species have gorgeous white or off-white flowers. The genus hales from North America, South America and the West Indies, but it has proven to be hardy in other locations as well. Import Export

They are found very often in ornamental gardens or indoors as house plants. You'll find that they are best kept indoors for the first three years. If you put them outside, make sure that they are placed in a sunny area that has good drainage. This is a plant that does very poorly when it is soggy. Be aware of the fact that the leaves of many varieties of yucca plant are quite sharp and to be careful! Keep them tidy and make sure that you take care when it comes to grooming them. Prune them regularly and when you do so, wear your thickest gloves! Though you should always make sure to research the variety of yucca that you are interested in before you plant it, be aware that many yucca do have edible parts. They produce fruit, seeds, and flowering stems that can be edible.
