Which Came First: Chickens or Chicken Eggs?
Chickens or chicken eggs? This question has boggled the minds of scientists for decades and then some. What did come first…the
chicken
or the
chicken egg?
Regardless of the answer, we all need eggs. They are not only a healthy source of protein, but they provide natural agents that actually curve the appetite. While scientists have been exhausting themselves over the idea of
'what did come first',
we have been indulging ourselves in one of the nature’s greatest treasures – the egg.
Eggs for Dieting
Of course, there were fads of eating low fat diets. We are in a constant diet society. Naturally, this particular diet called for excluding the yolk from the main course. The yolk, after all is the fattiest part, and it will make an individual fatter. So we focused our 'health' on egg white omelets and other dishes that promoted the egg white.
On the contrary, the yolk of the egg is beneficial to an individual trying to lose weight. The body burns fat naturally from fat. And it typically will do so from easy to reach areas like the digestive system.
Starving the body from necessary nutrients found in chicken eggs and other protein rich foods will only send the body into shock. The body will think that it is in a famine and begin to store the fat in the areas that are regretted – typically the waistline. In most cases, that is where one is hoping to slim down a bit.
The Hatching Egg Process
A woman takes her son to see a psychiatrist who asks 'What seems to be the problem?' 'My son thinks he’s a chicken!' responds the woman 'How long has this been going on?' 'Over a year now.' 'Why didn't you seek help sooner?' 'Well, we needed the eggs!'

Just as in the joke above, people raise chickens for eggs. In that woman’s case, she did not want to seek help for a situation that was obviously beneficial to her family! As with many professions, egg hatcheries have a process to follow. After all, the main goal here is to feed the many nations, or provide solutions for hungry individuals. The egg is first laid at the Poultry Hatchery. It will then face Candling, and continue to the Hatching process.
The Poultry or Chicken Hatchery
The chicken hatchery is in short a place that specializes in raising chickens for eggs. In many ways, it is similar to the
dairy farm – a place that focuses on raising cows for the sole purpose of producing milk.In this case, they focus on producing eggs for resale.
Candling
Eggs are candled to determine whether they are fertile and, if fertile, to check the growth and development of the embryo. White eggs should be tested for fertility on the third day. Brown shelled eggs on the fifth or sixth day because it is difficult to see the embryo clearly before this time. Fertility can be between 88 & 98%.
The hen is removed from the egg and can be placed in a separate cage if necessary. The egg is then careful put in a 'comforting position' such as a small bowl with a towel to cradle it. Candling occurs by shining a
light
on the egg. Traditionally a candle was used, hence candling. For further information on candling visit:
